Teacher at Sea

In March of 2010, I was emailed with the exciting news that I was chosen as a Teacher at Sea by the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This program gives teachers the opportunity to participate in ongoing scientific research aboard one of the NOAA vessels.

In April of 2010, I received even more exciting news that I was confirmed to sail aboard the Oscar Dyson during a BASIS Survey in the Bering Sea. BASIS stands for Bering Arctic Subarctic Integrated Surveys. These surveys monitor populations of such species as pollock and salmon. These fish will serve as indicators to help scientists evaluate how climate changes are impacting this vital marine ecosystem.

My sail date is scheduled for around August 16th and will sadly end September 3rd. I am planning on spending a few weeks prior to my cruise exploring the island of Unalaska via foot, kayak and bike...

I imagine in the upcoming weeks you may watch the aesthetics of this Blog change a bit.. as I intend to spend some time with it before my departure date (about August 1st).

Adventure Away... May the summer begin!!!
